I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker registered in California who specializes in providing individual psychotherapy to adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, loneliness, anger, bipolar, low self-esteem, complicated grief and complex trauma. I am also passionate in assisting emerging adults in finding their uniqueness, identity and vocation.
I began my ministry as a youth pastor in 1999 in Malaysia. Serving as a pastor for 12 years, I mentored and trained youth and young adults to discern their vocation and provided pastoral counseling to individuals and families.
In 2012, I received a Master of Social Work Degree at Baylor University in Texas as a Global Mission Leadership scholar. Serving as a clinical social worker in the Full Service Partnership (FSP) program with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) and a Federal Qualified Health Center (FQHC) has provided me with extensive experience working with individuals diagnosed with severe mental illness including depression, anxiety, trauma, suicidal ideation, self-harm behaviors, addictions, psychosis, and bipolar symptoms. I conducted anger management classes approved by the Orange County Probation Department in California and have also provided mental health therapy to children and adults who were victims of crime such as domestic violence, child abuse, sexual and physical assault, gang violence and robbery.
In 2017, I completed a Master of Arts in Theology Degree at Fuller Seminary. During my time at Fuller, I took the opportunity to sharpen my competence by attaining training in marital and family therapy at Fuller School of Psychology. I am experienced in conducting psychological assessments and helping students manage emotional disturbance and low self-esteem issues.
My primary therapy style is Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) complemented with Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) principles. Furthermore, my training in Christian ministry uniquely positions me to address religious/spiritual issues. As a multilingual therapist and a global citizen, I appreciate the resiliency and complexity of international transitions and have the expertise in navigating intergenerational, intercultural, interfaith, and third culture issues. I speak Mandarin, Cantonese and English fluently.
I am married to a magnanimous woman and am the father of two wonderful children. Currently, I am also a clinical supervisor at a private practice in California and provide my services in an international Employee Assistance Program (EAP) agency serving multinational corporations in Asia.
