JC Hong (Hong Jin Chun)
reading Master in Clinical Psychology - Taylor's University, Malaysia
B.A. in Psychology and Business - Upper Iowa University (USA)

My name is Hong Jin Chun (JC), a clinical psychologist committed to providing individual psychotherapy for adolescents, young adults, and adults from diverse walks of life. My academic journey began with a double major Bachelor’s of Arts in Business and Psychology from Upper Iowa University. I am on track to obtain my professional license under the Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council (MAHPC) upon completing the Master in Clinical Psychology at Taylor’s University, Malaysia, in April 2025.
Beyond academia, serving for almost a decade as a Christian coach in sports and leadership development with Gateway Community—a non-profit organization dedicated to engaging communities, enriching character, and enacting positive change through sports—has shaped my ability to connect deeply with people. Walking alongside local youths and young adults has equipped me with strong communication and relational skills, allowing me to engage meaningfully, bridge diverse backgrounds, and harness motivation within the context of sports to foster holistic growth of the body, mind, and spirit. My pastoral ministry and church involvement have further enriched my understanding of faith-based counseling and mentorship, deepening my appreciation for the role of spirituality in mental health interventions.
My clinical experience expanded significantly during my practicum at Dignity for Children’s Foundation, where I worked closely with refugee communities and urban poor children in Kuala Lumpur. I supported a diverse range of individuals, from neurodivergent adolescents with learning difficulties to late teens navigating clinical conditions such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Utilising creative and culturally sensitive approaches, I provided therapy, collaborated with teachers, parents, and families in a multidisciplinary setting, conducted mental health workshops, and facilitated small group interventions to promote holistic recovery.
Rooted in holistic recovery, my therapeutic approach aligns with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), guided by person-centered principles of authenticity, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. In a world filled with noise and nuance, I believe that attuning to one’s emotional frequency and core values is key to navigating life’s challenges. As a clinical psychologist, my role is to journey alongside you—helping reframe life’s struggles with hope, fostering openness and curiosity about the inner workings of the mind, and ultimately guiding you toward a life of greater clarity, resilience, and purpose.
